For Labor Day weekend we had the brilliant idea to go backpacking. We left Saturday morning and decided to try this new trail that goes into this park area at the bottom of Mt Jefferson. About 1/4 of the way into the hike Brett looks up at this big mountain looming in front of us and says "I have a feeling we're going over that." And sure enough... we did. Up to 7010 ft elevation that looked over practically the whole of Oregon. And you're just going to have to take my word for it because we didn't get a picture! ugh! Sunday we got snowed in. It snowed alllll day. So the three of us had to spend allllll day in the tent bundled up against the cold. Luckily we brought some cards, a book, and we watched a movie on Brett's phone, and snacked on trail mix, pringles, cookies, and hot cool-aid. By Monday the storm had passed and it was a beautiful clear day, so we got the heck out of there. It was 15 miles round trip. We were pretty proud of ourselves for being so adventurous and surviving:) Just kidding moms, we were perfectly safe.

Brett's Parenting
This is the conversation I overheard this morning:
Brett: Charlie, you're kinda an idiot. (as he's cleaning up dog throw up). You know, any semi smart individual would know better than to eat rocks and Q-tips. Of course your going to throw up. That's why you're an idiot.
We've been talking a lot about parenting styles with our social worker this week, and I was impressed with Brett's soft, calm tone of voice. The name calling--not so much. I guess I just have to hope for a kid that doesn't eat rocks and raid our trash.
pics from our trip to Cali to follow.

Happy 4th!
We went on a little hike for the 4th, and things didn't end the way we expected. Charlie decided to go down the steep hill and jump into the river. He rode a rapid then couldn't get out because the banks were too steep. So Brett goes charging down the hill to save him. On the way down he slips on the wet rocks and goes sliding into the river himself. So because the bank on the right side of the river were so steep and rocky, they had to go to the other side, hike up stream for a little ways to find a good place to cross back over. I just wish I was a little quicker with the camera.
